Oil change

Do you have a Jeep® oil change coming up at Sansone Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM? Still unclear what type of oil is best? We’re diving into the ins and outs of oil changes, why you need them, and how to choose the right oil for your SUV.

What Type of Oil Do I Need?

It’s very important that you use the type of oil that is recommended for your vehicle to limit undue wear. This information can also be found in your owner’s manual.

There are four main types of engine oil:

  • Conventional oil is the most common type of motor oil and typically the most affordable. It comes from refined crude oil and is best for low-mileage vehicles with a simple engine design.
  • Synthetic oil is a man-made lubricant that includes additives and fewer impurities than conventional oil. It costs more, but you will have to change synthetic oil far less often.
  • Synthetic blend combines conventional and synthetic oils. It is a higher grade than conventional oil but more affordable than synthetic.
  • High-mileage oil includes additives that protect older vehicles with high mileage. It can help limit oil consumption and reduce oil leaks and burn-off.

Why Do I Need an Oil Change?

Your engine oil protects your engine by limiting friction, and it also helps keep your engine clean. Over time, engine oil becomes thicker and dirtier, making it less likely to flow smoothly. This can reduce your engine’s performance and fuel efficiency, even leading to complete engine failure over time.

How Often Do I Need an Oil Change?

There are many factors that affect your oil change schedule. It’s important to review your owner’s manual to see the ideal schedule for your vehicle.
